TBC, GIS Module Field-to Finish Workflow Training

In this training we will cover:

  • Introduction and brief discussion on the types of features (points, lines, areas, etc.) that will be collected
  • Discussion of hardware setup (e.g., VRS rover setup, RTX Rover setup, Base/Rover setup, Optical, etc.)
  • Discussion of ESRI Geodatabase (GDB) structure (Domains/attributes) and how to properly prepare the GDB
    Discuss shapefile/GDB limitations or caveats
  • Connect to File GDB in TBC via the GIS Connection Manager
  • Review Coordinate system mapping and caveats around that
  • Extract (Get) schema for .FXL file creation
  • Review .FXL within the Trimble Feature Definition Manager
  • Transfer .FXL to Trimble Access data collector for use in Trimble Access
  • Collect (or use pre-created .JOB) data in Trimble Access using the aforementioned .FXL
  • Transfer .JOB file to computer and bring said .JOB file into TBC to review Process Feature Codes
  • Optionally review the Map Metadata feature and the caveats to do so
  • Write data to GIS (GDB)
  • Review data in GDB inside ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro Software
  • Review process for reading data in from GDB into TBC

Zach Edwards is the Mapping & GIS (MGIS) Training & Support Lead for AllTerra Central, Inc. and is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Zach has been with AllTerra Central for 4.5 years. He has 18 years’ experience as a GIS professional with 9 years of this being in field data collection solution sales, training, & support. Zach has a solid understanding of GIS mapping and techniques, a deep knowledge of geographic theory gained through research, relevant academic coursework, and work experience. He also has a passion for geodetics and bridging the gap between Land Surveyors and GIS Professionals. Zach has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Bowling Green State University (2005) and a Master of Applied Geography from New Mexico State University (2008). Zach also teaches GIS, Photogrammetry, and GNSS coursework in the Geographic Information Technology (GIT) program at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque.
