Support Spotlight: Reid Joy – Technical Support
Reid is a native Texan, born and raised in Beeville. He has lived up and down the central Texas corridor from Corpus Christi to DFW and finally landed in New Braunfels. In previous careers he worked in Aircraft Maintenance under contract to the US Navy and did some time as a Texas State Corrections Officer before tackling the commercial security industry. Installations included numerous CCTV, Access Control, Fire Alarm, automated gate entries/exits, and other installations at U.S. Postal Service facilities across the state, Johnson Space Center and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility for NASA, and Corpus Christi City Hall among others. When he decided he had done enough work in dirty hot spaces during the Texas summer he found his way to Western Data Systems with the primary goals of handling inventory, rentals, and salespeople. He started answering the new Tech Support Line in 2012. Fast forward to today and he’s still supporting customers, still remembering useless tips about Trimble GeoExplorer 2008 units, and still appreciating the support of the great team that AllTerra Central has become.

During his down time you’ll probably catch him enjoying the quiet life of being single with no kids. Reading, listening to his ever-evolving stereo system, or watching a movie. This week we’re on the fence between watching The Thing or Big Trouble in Little China, probably both. I mean, it’s Kurt Russell, right?

Trimble GNSS Firmware Week Rollover issue

Trimble 5700 and 5800 model 1 receivers will now incorrectly interpret week numbers due to a recent Week Number Rollover related event. This will lead to errors in calculation of time, date, and position, preventing these receivers from operating. These should no longer be used in the field. Newer survey GNSS receivers must have firmware 4.30 or higher to function correctly.

This issue also affects the Trimble Geo 2008/3000 and ProXT/XH receivers for MGIS. Please reach out to your regional sales representative for more information.

Trimble has released an application that will update hardware components running Windows. The products that are supported are the TSC7, the T7 tablet, and T100 tablets. The utility runs in the background and will periodically check for updates. When connected to the internet, you will be notified when an update is available and can choose to install it when you are able. For more information, please refer to the support note at Trimble Update Tool

TSC5 Battery Charge Failure

An issue has developed where TSC5 controllers will show the battery to be in a failed state. When in the failed state, a red led will be shown above the power button. A firmware update has been released to fix the majority of these issues. Please download and install the update as soon as it is received.

Did you Know?
The MT1000 can be used in Active, Semi-Active, or Passive tracking mode depending on your needs.

  • Active- Use in a highly reflective environment. For example, along roadways, in urban areas, on sites with multiple prisms.
  • Semi-Active- Use in reflective environment and require precise elevations. In semi-active mode the robot tracks the LEDs on the MT1000 but automatically switches to the prisms to take a measurement.
  • Passive- Use when not in a reflective environment.
