Joshua Rodriguez

Joshua Rodriguez was born and raised in Rosenberg, TX, before moving to Cypress, TX, where he attended Cy-Fair High School. After graduating, he began working on a land drilling rig for Key Energy in Lafayette, LA. Although the experience was valuable, Joshua decided to pursue a career closer
to family and friends.

In 2014, he started his land surveying career at Cobb Fendley & Associates, quickly advancing to the role of Instrument Man. He later worked for Landpoint Surveying and GeoSolutions, where he became a Party Chief. While at GeoSolutions, he contracted with CenterPoint Energy, specializing in laying out new gas and power lines and marking trench locations for utilities in new subdivisions. Joshua enjoyed the hands-on fieldwork and the opportunity to travel, but his time in the field concluded after a layoff.

This transition proved to be a positive turning point, as it led him to join AllTerra on June 1, 2022. Since then, he has relished the opportunity to experience a different side of the surveying profession. In his free time, Joshua enjoys taking his daughter, Isabella, to the park and playing golf with his dad and brothers.

  • User Profile
    • The offline period for TID accounts has been extended from 7 to 30 days, offering more flexibility and convenience for offline work
  • New TBC Mining Subscription
    • Automated break line extraction – automatically extract break lines from open pit mine slopes using point cloud data
    • Conformance reports detailing slope information
    • Run of mine analysis to document volumetrics and more
  • Photogrammetry
    • Supports a broader range of drones
    • Orthomosaic creation from façades along with a custom-designed cutting plane to create an orthomosaic TIFF photo of a vertical façade
    • Ability to merge multiple flight sessions into one flight mission
  • Mobile Mapping
    • Extract pavement lane lines automatically from images captured
    • Create a mosaic of orthorectified imagery from back-facing Mobile Mapping images
    • The Inspect Pavement Condition command measures the elevation difference between the road’s pavement edge and shoulder to identify severity levels for drop-off conditions
    • Crack Detection feature automatically measures pavement crack dimensions, including width, using more accurate orthorectified imagery
    • LiDAR QC Support with a trajectory processing Technology that enhances georeferencing accuracy in areas with poor GNSS coverage or mismatched overlapping scans
  • Network Adjustment
    • The Network Adjustment command now supports user-defined variance groups for custom weighting of GNSS vectors in least-squares adjustments
  • Coordinate System
    • You can now select the Coordinate Reference System (CRS) for GNSS vector coordinates in Project Settings, with options for Global datum at reference epoch or ITRS at measurement epoch
    • When importing OPUS solutions, you can choose between Local NAD83 coordinates computed by NGS or Global ITRS coordinates at the measurement epoch for re-computation
  • Point Clouds
    • Automatically classify and extract custom features to support the extraction of any feature with an identifiable shape
    • Advances in pavement extraction have led to a fully automated process that replaces manual lane line digitizing, using imagery from Trimble MX series mobile mapping systems to conduct severity inspections, road shoulder drop-off analysis, and crack detection, with exportable results for surveyors and contractors
    • The LAS point cloud exporter now lets you export separate LAS files for each scan station
  • Surfaces
    • The issue of overlapping vertices from small triangles causing surface elevation spikes and uneven shading has been fixed with a clustering algorithm that groups neighboring vertices into small clusters

Trimble Access

Trimble Access version 2024.10 was released in November of 2024. This version added several new features and changes to improve functionality.

Key Features:

  • Map Dark Mode
    • The new Dark mode setting in the Map settings screen enables you to change the map background to black. This can be useful when working in low light conditions or for better contrast when working with light colored linework.
  • KML and KMZ file support:
    • You can now link Google Earth KML or KMZ files to the job and display them in the map.
  • NMEA output from GNSS receiver enhancements:
    • When using a controller running Android, you can now select Bluetooth in the Receiver port field.
    • Previously, Bluetooth connections were supported only when using a controller running Windows
  • NMEA output from instrument enhancements:
    • All streamed data output formats are now available over Bluetooth for both Windows and Android Devices.
    • In addition to the existing Pseudo NMEA GGA data output option for streaming northing, easting, and elevation values, we have now added the standard NMEA GGA data output option for streaming latitude, longitude, and altitude values from the controller to the connected instrument. The NMEA GGA option complies with NMEA-0183 Standard for Interfacing Marine Electronic Devices.
  • Measuring with feature codes enhancements:
    • You can now reset all buttons in the Measure codes screen to the original code at any time.
    • When you make changes to the default template of groups in the feature library file in the Measure codes or Edit measure codes screen, the changes apply only to the controller on which the change has been made, and do not affect the default groups in the feature library file.
  • RTX internet now automatically switches to RTX satellite when needed:
    • When the survey style is configured to use RTX (internet), the software now automatically switches to using RTX (SV) if the software cannot connect to the internet or if the internet connection is interrupted. Once the internet connection is restored, the software resumes using RTX (internet).
  • Faster rapid points:
    • The rapid point occupation time has been improved by approximately 20% on average.
  • Bentley Open Road Design file support
    • You can now export job data as LandXML files that can be viewed in Bentley Open Road Design software. In the Export screen, select LandXMLand then select the Bentley compatible format check box.
  • Exporting Polylines
    • You can now export polylines with station and offset values for the staked points using the Road-line-arc stakeout report stylesheet or the Cut sheet 2 stylesheet.
  • Software now shows progress of the scan
    • When scanning using a Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station, the software now shows the progress of the scan rather than a progress bar.
  • Easy staking of additional points during road stakeout
    • During road stakeout you can now select additional points from the map to stake, whether staking from a road design file or from strings and surfaces.
